We’re delighted to report that teams from Griffiths & Armour took part in two challenges over the summer, raising donations of nearly £7,000.
The firm are incredibly proud of their efforts and in support of these, our Partners agreed to match the funds raised, culminating in a sum of £14,000 for our chosen charity, the NSPCC.
The first challenge saw a team of 18 take in the stunning views of the Lake District, whilst walking distances of either 28km or 50km, the latter taking around 14.5 hours. There were a few injuries and aches (and nearly some tears), both during and after the event, although everyone who took part completed their chosen distance. Those who took part in the walk this year were:
Nick Farrelly, Tom Mason, Peter Maher, Chloe Murray, Edward Dunphy, Gina Charles, Simon Keenan, Toby Spence, George Gardner, Holly Hughes, Joe Williams, Megan Chubb, Phoebe Evans, Belinda Farrell, Henry Sterling, Holly Quine, Matthew MacLaren and Tanya Winstanley
Hot on the heels of the walk, in July, a number of the Griffiths & Armour team took part in the Liverpool to Chester bike ride, over distances of either 50 or 100 miles. Both rides were pretty gruelling and riders were in the saddle for around 7 hours whilst cycling some well-known routes around the North West, including through one of the Mersey Tunnels, and meeting an unexpected delay caused by cows blocking a country lane. Taking part in the ride were:
Roger Moore, Des Kelly, John Lanyon, Joe Williams, Edward Dunphy, Henry Sterling, Pete Mullany, Sally Mullany and Holly Quine.
Beth Pochin, Corporate Partnerships Manager at the NSPCC, shared the following message:
“We’d like to say an enormous, heartfelt thank you from all of us at the NSPCC, to the inspiring Griffiths & Armour employees who took on the Lake District Challenge and Liverpool to Chester Bike Ride for the NSPCC. It’s a big commitment to give up a weekend, and take on such gruelling challenges, and we are immensely grateful!
The pandemic has served as a reminder of how resourceful and brave children can be. But there are issues that no child should have to face alone – like abuse, bullying, and mental health issues.
We’re so proud that through our Childline service, we can be there for children when they reach out, whatever their worry. We cannot do this without the incredible commitment of our volunteer counsellors, and with the funds you’ve raised through this challenge, you could help us to recruit, train and support 8 new volunteer counsellors to be at the end of the phone or computer when a young person reaches out.
Thank you to everyone who took part and sponsored those who took part. Your funds will make an enormous difference.”
After the success of our previous events and challenges over previous years including the Liverpool Sportswoman’s Lunch, 24 Hour Fundraiser, and Peak District challenge, we were pleased to continue our efforts to raise much needed funds and look forward to the next challenge!
